Reporting to the Deputy Minister’s Senior Advisor, the Senior Policy Analyst leads departmental projects. activities and undertakes research. They also are responsible for policy analysis on specified issues and coordination support as assigned by the Senior Advisor on issues of cross-divisional and cross-departmental nature.

Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary education in social sciences, public administration, business administration or other relevant discipline, as well as extensive work experience in social policy development. Other relevant combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong organizational skills and experience in working under pressure, managing multiple priorities in tight timeframes.
- Demonstrated political acumen with experience dealing with highly sensitive matters where information accuracy and attention to detail is critical.
- Experience interpreting legislation and regulations.
- Extensive analytical problem solving skills, with the ability to create innovative solutions to complex issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain and develop strong working relationships.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal/external stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills with experience drafting complex correspondence, processes, policies, guidelines or other relevant documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, while managing unexpected changes or last minute requests.
Desired:
- A thorough understanding of the Government approval process is an asset.
- French language skills are considered an asset.
Duties:
- Identifies emerging trends while understanding the political landscape within government and potential issues/opportunities with respect to the work of the department of Families.
- Draws logical conclusions based on the assessment of available information and the analysis of factors that indicate potential opportunities or underlying risks or barriers.
- Responds to Ministerial inquiries by researching issues, canvassing departmental divisions and other departments for information, and synthesizing it to concise reports/response.
- Uses a range of approaches to research and evaluate social policy/programs and respond to requests for information, including internet searches, jurisdictional scans, literature reviews, statistical analysis, focus groups, surveys, interviews, stakeholder consultations, etc.
- Proactively works to build teams/relationships and actively fosters team cohesiveness and goal achievement.
- Reviews and coordinates departmental communications including media responses; sign off on departmental and cross-departmental news releases; and preparation of materials for Question Period in response to high profile issues.
