    The Law Society of New South Wales is looking to employ a Senior Policy Lawyer in its Policy and Practice Department on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Policy Lawyer in the Law Society’s Policy and Practice Department, you will be responsible for providing effective and efficient legal policy advice and support to the Law Society and its specialist policy committees in the Social Justice and Public Law Reform team. This will include preparing submissions on legal policy issues, representing the Law Society at external meetings, and conducting research, advocacy and policy development.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Policy and practice support for designated Committees, at the direction of the Head of Social Justice & Law reform. This includes liaising with practitioners and other Law Society staff on issues arising from the Committees, drafting submissions, correspondence and reports as required and ensuring the timely completion and distribution of agenda papers and minutes.
  • Undertake additional tasks and projects at the direction of the Director or Head of Social Justice & Law Reform, which contribute to the operational needs of the Department or Team, or which involve coordination of a specific policy project or campaign.
  • Provide assistance to the President, Council, CEO and Media and Public Relations Manager through the preparation of briefing notes and other material on policy and practice issues as required.
  • Undertake research on practice issues and policy development as required, including the preparation of material for the Law Society Journal, Monday Briefs and the Law Society website.
  • Assist in the provision of accurate, timely and effective practice information and assistance to members of the profession in concert with the Law Society’s Legal Information Service and Professional Support Unit, on practice matters in the areas of responsibility of the designated group of practice areas.
  • Supervise administrative or paralegal staff, as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
