The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Policy Officer to provide a critical role within the Tobacco Regulation Project team.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Legislation, Policy and Engagement, the Senior Policy Officer will develop, implement, and evaluate legislative and regulatory reform policy and projects to support the establishment of the tobacco regulator and licensing scheme.

As the Senior Policy Officer, some of your duties will include:

  • Developing policy initiatives and providing advice to senior managers, executives and government on key policy and legislation/regulatory issues.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform evidence-based policy outcomes that meet government and departmental objectives.
  • Overseeing and contributing to the completion of specific projects related to legislative and regulatory policy development and implementation within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
  • Collaborating and building effective working relationships with various key internal and external stakeholders

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience providing high quality, strategic and evidence-based advice to inform decision-making, and the ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues.
  • Experience managing stakeholders, including influencing and negotiating.
  • Experience in managing projects related to policy development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with legislative frameworks and the ability to ensure that policies are aligned with regulations and standards.
  • Experience with Victorian Government administrative, budget or Cabinet processes, or the ability to understand these quickly.
  • Relevant experience and/or a tertiary degree in public policy, project management or other relevant areas in highly desirable
