Greenpeace International’s Programme Department is seeking a Global Senior Political Strategist to take on a leadership role in advancing global political strategies and providing political expertise in order to support impactful campaigns and projects across Greenpeace’s network. The successful candidate will represent Greenpeace at key international fora and support colleagues and delegations in multilateral processes and advocacy efforts.
The Senior Political Strategist will provide high-level political analysis, technical and policy expertise, and thought leadership, fostering collaboration and innovation in support of Greenpeace’s mission. This means advising, leading, and implementing global programme political strategies and supporting campaigns, engagement, and communications colleagues on global political matters. In addition, the candidate will facilitate knowledge and information sharing, collaboration and best practice across the network and keep abreast of the latest political, technical and policy developments, always aiming to ensure that innovation is at the heart of our work.

Responsibilities:

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Lead the development and implementation of global programme political strategies through inclusive dialogue with NROs, project teams, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish and/or maintain strategic partnerships and alliances across the broader movement and represent Greenpeace in different fora.
  • Actively support the delivery of assigned political projects or initiatives including assuming a project leadership role and/or task management responsibilities as and when required
  • Provide expert advice and support to NROs, project teams and other key stakeholders on political strategies, advocacy and operating in multilateral processes and fora
  • Develop analysis, materials, trainings and other tools to disseminate political insights and technical expertise in order to advance Greenpeace campaign and/or political goals
  • Monitor and analyse key political developments, providing strategic recommendations to relevant stakeholders in the global network.
  • Conduct independent research and commission external analysis to support political programme objectives.

  • Significant professional experience in global politics with a strong understanding of climate, biodiversity, and social crises in different regions.
  • Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders within an international organisation on subjects related to political issues and the shifting nature of global power structures.
  • Deep understanding of geopolitical shifts, corporate influence on politics, and multilateral processes.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic campaign plans with political objectives.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex political issues into clear campaign strategies.
  • Established connections within relevant political bodies, think tanks, and NGO networks.
  • Ability to identify political opportunities and leverage them to drive meaningful change.
  • A collaborative approach with sensitivity to diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
  • Fluency in English (additional language skills are an advantage).
  • Demonstrable support for and belief in the Greenpeace network core aims and values.
  • Digital literacy skills; the ability to learn and utilise our digital platforms to successfully perform the role function (familiarity with G-Suite, Slack and Zoom is an advantage
