Description:

Overview:
Supervise and perform the primary accounting function for the corporate and property level General Ledgers (G/L) of a diverse publicly traded REIT. This position requires close coordination with the Accounting Manager, Manager of SEC Reporting, Accountants, and other Accounting Department personnel. Developing strong relationships with third party managers and tenants is also required. The Senior Portfolio Accountant reports to the Manager, REIT Accounting.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, generate, and review financial reports and supporting workpapers monthly, quarterly, and annually on a GAAP basis. Analyze results.
  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare/review journal entries and general ledger account analysis. Apply consolidation concepts and accounting for the TRS portfolio.
  • Review monthly senior living communities’ operating statements ensuring preparation in accordance with management and lease agreements.
  • Handle all financial aspects of several portfolios of senior living communities.
  • Prepare debt covenants as stipulated in the applicable agreements.
  • Assist with the preparation of SEC filings and related public disclosures. Assist external auditors during their review and audit of the Company’s public filings.
  • Assist in the internal audit process, including updating internal control policies and testing.
  • Facilitate the calculation and payment of corporate G&A expenses due to RMR.
  • Develop and foster a strong relationship with third party senior living communities’ managers, tenants and RMR asset management staff.
  • Maintain communication with the third party senior living communities’ managers, Department Managers, Corporate Accounting, AR/AP and the Asset Management team.
  • Cross train on other portfolios within the REIT and provide backup support as needed. Utilize experience to assist in the development of others.
  • Maintain cash reporting and monitoring for scheduled debt service payments.
  • Perform special projects as needed and provide support to senior management.
  • Strive to identify areas where procedures and efficiency can be improved.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative and results-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify areas of process improvement opportunities.
  • Willingness to complete daily responsibilities and any special projects with high accuracy and timeliness.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to continued professional improvement and development.
  • Approachable and accessible.
  • Proficiency with Property Management/Accounting software. Yardi preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and other Windows applications.
