Description:
Wärtsilä is an innovative technology company known for being a forerunner in the Marine and Energy markets. Every day, we - Wärtsilians - put our hearts and minds into turning Wärtsilä’s purpose of enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services into reality. Our ultimate aim is to provide increased value to both our customers and society. New, game-changing ideas and continuous improvement have been part of our DNA since 1834. Together, we can create new business opportunities and more sustainable future that we can all be proud of.
We want to transition the world towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. By pushing the boundaries of engineering and technology, we can make it work. We are always on the lookout for future-oriented talent - want to join the ride?
Wärtsilä Energy Business is at the forefront of developing and delivering competitive products and solutions for power systems worldwide. Our scope ranges from microgrids to large interconnected grids, and from base load to the high-demand balancing market.
The power systems around the world are undergoing major transformations where inverter technologies are taking a larger share of the generation mix, which in a result are reducing inherent stabilising features from synchronous generating. Regulators and grid operators are expanding their grid codes and developing various market mechanisms to address these changes. To ensure Wärtsilä’s market position and competitiveness, we must develop, deliver and maintain solutions that comply with these evolving grid codes and market mechanisms.
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Power System Engineer to join our Power Systems team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in power system analysis and grid code compliance to ensure our solutions are both impactful and compliant. You will study dynamic behaviours, develop control concepts to optimize reliability and operations, and ensure our solutions meet grid code requirements.

- You hold a Master’s degree or higher in Electric power engineering, with 5+ years of relevant working experience
- Strong experience in power system control and stability
- In-depth knowledge of grid code requirements
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong planning and execution abilities
- Positive, results-oriented mindset and self-driven approach
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Fluent written and spoken English
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE THAT ARE SEEN AS A PLUS:
- Proficiency in power system modelling and simulation using PowerFactory and PSCAD.
- Coordination skills; suppliers, internal and external customers
- Power plant site experience
- Thermal power plant experience and their control
- Ability to think out of the box and challenge conventional ways of working
- Strong analytical skills, as well as creative thinking and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:
- Conduct modelling and simulations to validate power system control concepts
- Perform modelling and simulations to ensure grid code compliance of Wärtsilä solutions
- Analyse grid code requirements and identify how Wärtsilä’s solutions comply with them
- Collaborate with team members, suppliers, and partners to co-create developments
- Uphold and drive Wärtsilä values and purpose
