Description:
QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Avionics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and at least 10 years of progressive experience as a System Engineer in Aerospace Power Systems Integration including Aerospace hybrid/electric propulsion design and integration. In the alternative, at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Avionics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and at least 7 years of experience as a System Engineer in Aerospace Power Systems Integration including Aerospace hybrid/electric propulsion design and integration would be acceptable.
- At least 7 years of experience with Chapter 24 Power Systems Development developing control and protection-based system architectures in compliance with Chapter 24 safety and operational requirements.
- At least 5 years of domain experience in aerospace electric and hybrid electric propulsion systems domain.
- At least 5 years of experience working with Model Based Systems Engineering processes and tools.
- At least 2 years of experience in Project Leadership roles.

Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation d/b/a Collins Aerospace an opening for a Senior Principal Engineer, Systems Engineering in Rockford, IL. This is a hybrid position that requires working in the Rockford, IL office 3 days per week, allowing remote work 2 days per week. 15% national and international travel during the year, which includes travel to other company business units, customers and suppliers, as well as applicable training seminars/ workshops.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Build domain knowledge in Systems Integration department in the field of electric and hybrid propulsion systems.
- Work with System Integration Discipline Chiefs to adapt Chapter 24 domain knowledge of processes and aerospace engineering practices to system application in the hybrid/electric propulsion domain.
- Define system architectures to meet customer requirements for high voltage dc applications including definition of requirements for generators, power converters, power distribution assemblies and battery systems.
- Complete trade-offs to evaluate complexity of weight, cost and weight for multiple system aerospace power system architectures.
- Lead the conceptual design, develop verification/certification strategy and other technical aspects of proposals for high voltage dc electric systems, battery systems and hybrid electric propulsion systems.
- Determine control and protection schema for high voltage dc systems and complete electric load analysis to establish the capability of proposed systems to meet customer power capacity needs.
- Provide clear, sustainable and cost-effective direction for requirements decomposition, validation and verification at System and product implementation levels relative to application of electric motors/generators, motor controllers, propulsion powertrain, energy sources and protection of these elements.
- Guide product teams on the conceptual design of equipment for the proposed system architectures.
- Mentor engineers formally/informally in practices supporting Electric Propulsion.
- Develop training material for hybrid/Electric propulsion and work with programs during all phases to ensure that Systems life cycle processes are followed.
