We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Designer to join our team to work on the evolution of BatterySIMM and SmartBidder products here at Ascend. As Senior Prodcut Designer, you will be responsible for building a functional understanding of energy markets and renewable energy technology, researching and developing use cases and user personas, and delivering iterative visual designs for new features that empower our users to further the clean energy transition.
Job Responsibilities
- Deeply understand our use case and role in energy markets, developing documentation on user personas and jobs to be done that contextualizes this knowledge for the broader team.
- Collaborate with Product to expand upon early feature definition by translating initial ideas into:
- Clarifying questions that better define requirements or challenge initial assumptions
- Multiple design ideas and directions to begin from
- Final design iterations that balance future goals with current user needs
- Processes to gather and incorporate feedback from customers and internal stakeholders
- Develop and maintain a common design language and set of core UI components that underpin a consistent experience for users across battery products at Ascend.
- Attend customer calls, ask probing questions, and otherwise gather feedback from external and internal users alike to shape designs and ensure they deliver user value.
- Provide clear and consistent guidance to the development team, including interactive prototypes, design notes, and other collateral as needed.
- Proactively suggest and incorporate visual changes such as cleaner layouts, improved page density, or style updates that simplify and refine the existing experience over time.
- Research other energy market tools, especially those that our customers use in tandem with our platform, to ensure an intuitive experience for industry professionals.
Required Qualifications
- A BS or higher in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field
- Self-motivated and effective in an unstructured environment
- Accepts feedback well and has a bias towards moving forward, targeting great over perfect
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to balance output fidelity with the maturity of an idea or project
- Able to analyze the product and market needs at a conceptual level ensuring that new updates improve the product experience without overcomplicating it
- Creative and willing to explore ideas from multiple angles, often stepping back to reevaluate priors and guard against anchoring bias
Preferred Qualifications
- Motivated by our mission to accelerate the adoption of clean energy across the power sector
- Mastery of Figma including its auto-layout, component, mode, and library features to ensure consistency and efficiency when creating new designs
- History designing SaaS products for a technical user base
- Graphic design skills to create icons, logos, and scalable vector graphics from scratch
- Experience as the lead designer of a product in a previous role
