Description:

As the Senior Program Coordinator for youth initiatives at NAFC, you will work under the direction of the Program Manager to ensure the effective management and delivery of national youth programs in alignment with NAFC standards. Your role will involve developing, implementing and enhancing empowering programs for Indigenous youth while overseeing key operational duties. To thrive in this role, you should possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. A passion for youth development and a deep understanding of urban Indigenous communities will be crucial. Your ability to build relationships and create inclusive programming will significantly contribute to the success of NAFC’s initiatives and the empowerment of Indigenous youth.

Friendship Centres are Canada’s most significant urban Indigenous service delivery infrastructure. Based in downtown Ottawa, the NAFC represents a network of over 100 Friendship Centres and Provincial/Territorial Associations. Our collective work reaches millions of points of contact in a year and thousands of people every single day from coast to coast to coast.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of proven work experience as a Program Coordinator or similar role, with a focus on Indigenous Initiatives preferred.
  • Master’s degree in education, Canadian Studies, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered.
  • Tech savvy, proficient in MS Office.
  • In-depth knowledge of urban Indigenous communities.
  • A strong commitment to advocate with and for Indigenous Peoples across Canada.
  • Passion for youth leadership, education and empowerment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and community members.
  • Strong organizational skills, including multitasking and effective time management.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
  • Critical analysis skills; ability to analyze policy, program and projects effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work in French and Indigenous language is also an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support national youth initiatives management and enhancement of existing youth programs.
  • Collaborate with educators, community leaders, and experts to incorporate diverse perspectives into the Indigenous youth programs.
  • Overseeing the implementation of youth programs, including workshops, mentorship initiatives, and educational activities, ensuring high quality delivery and youth engagement.
  • Provide mentorship and support to program facilitators and educators, enhancing their effectiveness in curriculum delivery.
  • Collaborate with community members, elders, and educational institutions to gather input and feedback for program development.
  • Establish systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess the impact of the programs and make data-driven recommendations for enhancement.
  • Manage resources, including educational materials, budget, and equipment, to support the successful implementation of youth initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between NAFC and external stakeholders, representing NAFC’s vision and mission.
