Description:

D.M. Wills Associates Limited, located in Peterborough Ontario, is in search of a Senior Project Engineer to join our Structural (Bridge) Department. The ideal candidate will have a background in bridge engineering.
Reporting to the Structural (Bridge) Department Manager, you will be responsible for multiple projects from inception to completion and provide project management and engineering services supporting various projects. including preliminary project planning, design, tender preparation, and construction management and post-construction evaluation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience related to the key responsibilities of the position.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of project management experience.
  • Experience delivering project with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO).
  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of tender, RFP, RFQ submissions.
  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of contract administration.
  • Strong knowledge of the appropriate use of structural systems, materials, and technologies.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive practical working knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), and the MTO Structural Rehabilitation Manual, Structural Manual, and relevant design policies standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project schedule(s), track progress and implement controls.
  • Develop project budgets, monitor, and report.
  • Liaise with client on project scope and deliverables, ensuring frequent communication and support throughout project.
  • Prepare project reports for the client (weekly/monthly or otherwise as required), covering project progress, cost and schedule status, as well as ensuring visibility of key project risks, trends and areas of concern.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the engineering and design teams through all stages of the project.
  • Liaise with other professionals whose expertise is required to complete the project.
  • Direct the project team, including subcontractors and consultants.
  • Assign project submission tasks to designers.
  • Review designs for completeness, constructability, public safety, adherence to design criteria, and drawing appearance.
  • Ensure the design integrity of all aspects of projects through design development, detail design, tendering and construction.
  • Provide senior-level review of technical reports.
  • Assess, evaluate, and incorporate technical requirements, including input from external agencies and stakeholders.
  • Organize and perform site inspections when required.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Liaise with internal and external contacts, including attending and participating in project-related meetings, recording meeting notes, providing progress reports on deliverables, and other duties.
  • Stamp and sign engineering drawings and reports under their responsibility.
