Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Project Engineer/Project Manager for full-time employment based in the Kitchener, ON office. This is a great opportunity for a Senior level Municipal Engineer with design experience who is seeking a role that allows them to expand their experience and responsibility. The appropriately qualified candidate will have a proven track record in design, design reviews, proposal writing, report writing, and client liaison with the experience and enthusiasm to enhance and grow a municipal design team. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers primarily within the municipal water, wastewater and stormwater sector.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages one or more complex engineering projects
  • Responsible for delivering projects using local and remote professionals, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and change management.
  • Manages all phases of projects (from beginning to close out).
  • Project design decision-making authority and directs others in recognizing risk and uncertainty with plans to mitigate and eliminate such.
  • Engineer of Record on Civil projects
  • Develops strong client relationships, both internal and external to the project team, and enhances project performance
  • Lead existing municipal technical design staff, for projects including:
  • Sewer and watermain design/replacement /reconstruction,
  • Roadway and intersection improvements,
  • Site servicing design,
  • Potable water pumping, transmission, storage and distribution systems
  • Sanitary drainage and pumping
  • Client liaison and relationship management
  • Prepare documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of interest, and specifications
  • Perform Contract Administration duties, including contractor interaction, progress payment certificates and convene progress site meetings.
  • Communicate and work with other project team members in Kitchener and other regional offices to provide quality service to clients on projects of varying scope and complexity
  • Support new business development
  • Liaise with and assist other departments and offices in the provision of design services to other clients, as applicable
  • Perform financial and budget control duties on projects
  • Respond to contractor and public inquiries

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or equivalent)
  • P. Eng designation in Ontario
  • Six (6) years of demonstrated experience managing civil engineering projects and site development projects
  • Design experience in surface grading, water and sewer pipe networks and detail design
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work in field or office conditions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Stormwater Management procedures and design.
  • Experience in transportation design /reconstruction projects
  • Experience in land use planning and land development or site plan preparation and studies
  • Experience with design of trenchless methods for installation of small and large diameter watermains and sewers
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation
  • Familiarity with software for modelling water transmission/distribution systems
  • Familiarity with water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Certification such as PMP or related are desirable
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients
  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to work and communicate with clients, contractors and other AECOM staff
