Description:
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
You will typically be educated to degree standard, ideally in a business or engineering related discipline. If you do not have a degree and you have experience we are interested in hearing from you also. Ideally you will also meet the requirements for registration as a full member of the Association of Project Managers (APM) or recognised equivalent.
- Project Management experience across a number of phases of the project execution life cycle.
- Experience of different Project Management techniques and when to use them, e.g. Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA), Earned Value Management (EVM) and different Risk Management techniques
- Experience of working on projects that utilise Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or any Agile project management processes.
- Experience leading engineering teams through the transition from development into a production environment.
- Experience within engineering, procurement and/or finance functions would be advantageous but not essential.
- Experience of developing and maintaining strong supply base relations.
- An awareness of supporting functions such as Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and Configuration Control would be advantageous.
- Exposure and experience in all aspects of project planning, scheduling, work package management and cost control.
- Pro-active, dynamic individual with proven stakeholder management skills
- A performance manager with the ability to train, mentor, supervise and inspire
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE:
We are looking for a Project Manager to join the Typhoon Radar ECRS Mk0 Development IPT in Leonardo to support management activities across a variety of work packages and programme forums.
Leonardo is an international leader in the development of cutting edge sensor products deployed across a wide range of airborne platforms for our Aerospace and Defence customers.
The European Common Radar System Mk0 is designed and developed by the Euroradar Consortium, led by Leonardo UK from Edinburgh. The radar is in service on Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft with four export customers, with further orders expected in 2025. The Development IPT is responsible for developing and enhancing the Mk0 radar in accordance to the agreed capability road map, with new functionality in both Air-to-Air and Air-to-Surface modes.
As a Project Manager you will liaise with both the incumbent project managers and wider Integrated Project Team (IPT), which is comprised of a large, cross-functional skillset of engineers and professionals from across the business. In addition, you will require a level of financial and commercial understanding.
You will be part of the Programme Team and act as a Business Owner, as the IPT transforms how it is organised to align with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
You will be communicating with a complex customer base, understanding and agreeing the way forward with a dynamic supply chain and delivering to a demanding schedule. You may also at times require to participate in a level of bid management activities.
You will understand how a complex programme interlinks and managing the activities or dependencies that drive the key deliveries.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will support the incumbent project management team with management of IPT Project Engineering Leads and a number of internal functions including Engineering, Quality Assurance, Planning, Finance, Operations, Procurement and Commercial.
- Support to Project & Programme Management of the Purchaser and/or Customer Interface as required.
- Act as Business Owner in the SAFe transformation, aligning priorities for Programme Increment (PI) planning
- Support to Project Engineering Leads in regard to Work Package Management
- Close liaison with the Planning Function ensuring work package status constantly reflects current position with Earned Value data made readily available.
- Support to management reporting of Multi-Discipline IPT and Sub-contract activities, including input to Project Performance Reviews. Coordinating all internal reviews, you will manage the resultant actions to closure.
- Promote best practice of knowledge sharing and establishing clear success criteria for each member of the IPT, you will coordinate activities through class leading communication and planning skills.
- Support to provision of solid basis of estimates in support of Typhoon group financial and resource forecasting into Radar & Advanced Targeting Sector.
- Maintenance of Project Risk and Opportunity through the project lifecycle.
- Manage and report the IPT’s activities, including occasional representation of the IPT at Project performance Reviews.
- Organisation and coordination of both Internal & Customer Reviews, ensuring closure of any outstanding actions.
- Lead or support Bids & Proposal generation typically within short timescales.
