Type - We welcome both part-time and full-time applicants; hours will be agreed as part of negotiation. Permanent or Fixed Term TfL Contract (up to 24 months). The Fixed Term Contract has the option to opt out of the TfL final salary pension scheme.
Location - Hybrid working - working from home and North Greenwich office or other TfL sites, working from home maximum 50% of the time
Salary - Starting from £62,000 PA depending on skills, knowledge and experience, plus excellent benefits package.
We are the team that provides the technology and data for the whole of TfL to help keep 9 million customers moving on our network every day! We have an exciting pipeline of over 400 complex technology and business change projects and programmes to deliver in the coming years. We are seeking experienced Senior Project Managers to own and drive delivery in a range of exciting areas as well as provide leadership to a team of project managers. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • As a Senior Project Manager, you will be accountable to a Programme Manager or Senior Programme Manager for:
  • Leading a team of up to 7 project management professionals to deliver multiple projects or a single programme.
  • Resourcing your projects or programme to ensure successful delivery.
  • Working with the Commercial team to influence and shape contracts and frameworks and build relationships with external suppliers.
  • Delivering to agreed quality, time and budget tolerances through requisite regular reviews and effective management of risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Holding internal and external suppliers to account for meeting our delivery requirements.
  • Setting high standards of programme and project management practice and coaching individuals within your team to meet or exceed those levels of performance.
  • Developing effective mutual ‘win-win’ relationships with your colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers at a day-to-day level.

SKILLS – ALL ARE ESSENTIAL

  • Ability to lead, develop and inspire a team of project management professionals.
  • Ability to manage and influence senior and external stakeholders in a delivery capacity.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, and the ability to influence people at all levels across and outside of the organisation.
  • Matrix management of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver effective end-to-end performance.
  • A positive, can-do attitude, with focus on deadlines, and ability to deliver solutions when met with challenging issues and situations.
  • Planning and progress management of complex projects through the whole lifecycle.
  • Proficient in budget management, accurate financial forecasting and variance tracking.
  • Proficient in applying risk management methods and techniques.
  • Proficient negotiation and problem-solving skills including in resolution of complex issues.

Knowledge

  • ESSENTIAL - In-depth understanding of all aspects of project management practices and methods, including management of finances, schedule and achieving project objectives.
  • ESSENTIAL - Good understanding of technology systems and services, and their development and support lifecycles.
  • ESSENTIAL - Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent.
  • DESIRABLE - Accreditation in a recognised methodology such as APM, PRINCE2 or MSP.
  • DESIRABLE - Good understanding of procurement processes, commercial and contract management.
  • DESIRABLE - Good knowledge of relevant national and international legislation relating to Government / Public Sector IT – e.g. GDPR, EU Procurement Directives, IT security mandates and Freedom of Information Act.

Experience

  • ESSENTIAL – Extensive experience of forming and integrating complex projects, ensuring that their scope, requirements, governance and controls, roles and responsibilities, interfaces and project success criteria are correctly and properly established and managed throughout to ensure effective and timely delivery.
  • ESSENTIAL – Extensive experience of being accountable and personally making a difference for the successful end-to-end delivery of multiple and varied technically complex projects.
  • ESSENTIAL – Extensive experience of collaborating with sponsors and stakeholders, including reporting on progress at formal project reviews, to achieve the agreed outcomes and benefits.
  • DESIRABLE – Experience of delivering technology-driven/ IT projects in a large and complex matrix organisation.
  • DESIRABLE - Experience of delivery through external suppliers, including successfully managing and negotiating on commercial and contract issues.
  • DESIRABLE - Experience of line management (people leadership) of other project management professionals.
