Description:
We seek to recruit Senior Project Officers for our Minor Capital Works Unit.
The Minor Capital Works (MCW) Unit is part of the VSBA’s Programs Branch in the Asset Management Division. It manages the construction of Minor Capital Works Fund projects, which improve the learning environment, condition, and character of schools. The Unit also manages Inclusive School Fund projects, which make schools more inclusive.
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Senior Project Officer leads the delivery of a range of small, medium and large-scale capital works projects, providing opportunities for project management and complex decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- managing and coordinating the work of consultants and contractors to scope and deliver approved construction works, including maintenance, minor works and DDA compliance projects in schools
- negotiating with and influencing stakeholders in the development and management of construction projects, including school principals and other key school stakeholders
- monitoring and driving project outcomes, including time, cost, quality and compliance for construction projects
- assisting with accurate reporting based on credible, authoritative and well-evidenced advice for project outcomes in construction projects
- collaborating with internal teams on the implementation of construction projects
- establishing and maintaining effective relationships with diverse industry professionals such as engineers and surveyors to manage risks and resolve issues impacting successful project and program delivery
- overseeing end to end delivery of multiple construction projects simultaneously to achieve delivery outcomes, including required timeframes and budget restraints, whilst achieving the required project scope and quality
- overseeing procurement processes for consultants and contractors to meet statutory and regulatory requirements, including ministerial directions for construction procurement.
The ideal candidate will have a program implementation and/or project management background, with experience and/or related qualifications in building or construction and managing diverse stakeholders in achieving required outcomes.
This position is based at 33 St Andrews Place, East Melbourne, and hybrid working arrangements are available. It is a fixed-term position until 30/6/2026.
