Description:
About the role
SZC is ultimately owned by two shareholders, EDF and HMG. The shareholders hold their investment in SZC through NNB Holdings Company (SZC) Limited. Over the course of the current shareholding arrangements the shareholdings of the two shareholders will change.
The shareholders will fund SZC up until Financial Close through equity in line with the approved schedule and budget. SZC’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure (including activities relating to hydrogen, direct air capture and/or desalination) at Sizewell C in Suffolk. The principal objectives of the current development phase of the SZC project are to agree and implement the Capital Raise Plan, including completing an equity and debt raise, agree the core supply chain contracts and obtain the regulatory permits and licences required for the construction phase of the Project (including the core environmental permits and nuclear site licence).
Prior to the government investment decision SZC operated as part of EDF in the Nuclear Development business unit and was staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors who are now in the process of transferring to the direct employment of SZC. It is setting itself up as an organisation capable of
delivering a new nuclear power plant, from investment case and funding, to construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and decommissioning.
The SZC construction programme has a technical and commercial business case predicated on technical replication of Hinkley Point C. EDF will be an important supplier of nuclear capability for the SZC Programme from its established nuclear business footprint in the UK.
Key stakeholders are: UK Government, relevant Government departments and agencies including Treasury BEIS, EDF, Financial investors and institutions, Regulators, Alliance partners and local communities
What you’ll be doing
In respect to the Civil Works associated with the project, the SZC client have appointed an ‘Civil Works Alliance’ (CWA) which includes three delivery contractors (Laing O Rourke, Bouygues, Balfour Beatty) to undertake the following civil work scope:
- Enabling & Earthworks (EEW)- Diaphragm walls/temporary structures, bulk excavation, and backfilling at the location of the SZC Nuclear Power Plant.
- Main Civil Works (MCW)- The concrete frame structures that form the nuclear power plant.
- Marine & Tunnelling (M&T)- Large diameter intake and outfall tunnels.
The civils works being of a large scale and complex nature.
Working within the MCW delivery planning team there is a need to include a Snr Project Planner for Procurement. The MCW works includes specialist material suppliers and subcontractors (Tier 2 Supply Chain) as well as the more conventional supply chain. Due to their nature the specialist items have very significant lead-in times.
The primary role includes:
- To continue to develop the MCW Procurement and Engineering and Manufacture schedules, through liaison and coordination with other parts of the CWA team (especially Procurement and Engineering) and well as the T2 supply chain and integrate this with construction in the overall delivery schedule.
- Capturing and updating schedules with Procurement, and T2 Engineering and Manufacture progress.
- Identifying any areas of critical schedule slippage.
- The review/coordination/acceptance of T2 supply chain submitted schedules.
A secondary role, (only if time permits from the primary role) would be developing the civils schedule for a building or selection of buildings within the overall nuclear power plant.
It is intended that the SZC nuclear power plant is a replication of the one currently under construction at HPC. As the SZC civil contractors are the same as those employed at HPC, there is a strong knowledge transfer between projects.
Who we’re looking for
- Develop, maintain and update the contract/project procurement and engineering & manufacture programmes in accordance with the Project Requirements.
- Review/comment/acceptance of supply chain schedules
- Analyse performance and advise the project team of likely impact and recommend improvements.
- Represent the project / business with stakeholders.
- Report on progress and issues with advice on mitigation
- Coordinate with internal customers – supply chain, engineering, design, commercial, construction
- Responsible for the delivery of the planning and coordination processes.
- Liaise with site team and supply chain to check on progress, issues and review planned progress.
- Highlight issues for trending and resolution.
- Records and reporting.
