JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist to join our protein engineering team. The successful candidate will be driving technology innovation and contributing to the product pipeline by designing and creating new enzymes suitable for the preparation of glycans and glycoconjugates via the tools of molecular biology, enzyme engineering, protein expression and protein purification.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

· Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field.
· Over 5 years of experience in protein engineering, enzymology, molecular biology, or structural biology.
· Technically proficient in protein engineering tools, including construct design by molecular biology, protein expression in E. coli and other microbial host cells, enzyme purification and kinetic characterization.
· Superior prior experiences on design of complex experiments in enzyme characterization and engineering, including design and construction of protein diversity libraries, directed evolution, and screening to characterize the purified proteins and enzymes.
· Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills are essential.
· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
· Experience in the field of carbohydrate processing enzymes is desirable

Responsibilities:

· Identify potential enzyme candidates with desired catalytic activity using literature research and bioinformatic tools.
· Express, purify and characterize recombinant enzymes.
· Design and generate mutation libraries via structural understanding.
· Screen mutation libraries by activity, substrate acceptance, selectivity, stability and other biocatalytic features.
· Apply molecular modelling tools for site directed enzyme engineering.
· Trouble-shoot and optimize protein expression and their purification.
· Independently plan, design, execute, record and analyze experimental studies.
· Collaborate in cross-functional team projects.
