REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- You have a Ph. D. in Chemistry or a related field with experience working in wet labs, preferably in organic/polymer synthesis and characterization.
- You have over 5 years of industrial experience postdoc in the area of materials research.
- You have experience in laboratory experiments involving multi-step organic synthesis, polymerization, sample purification and characterization, crystallizations, and other lab techniques.
- You have experience in design and synthesis of conjugated polymers, stimuli-responsive polymers, small organic molecules, and functional organic materials utilizing various polymerization techniques like condensation and controlled radical polymerization.
- You have extensive knowledge and experience with NMR, MALDI-TOF, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Fluorimeter, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Viscometer, Combi-flash, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Glove box, Water contact angle analysis, Viscometer, and Texture analysis.
Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As the Senior Material Chemist, you will be working on ‘by design’ synthesis of new porous polymers for CO2 capture and sorption applications You will constantly follow patent and open literature and assist the IP development from materials to experimental laboratory scale process demonstrations along with our active characterization and bed building team. You will also assist in the smooth running of the DAC team by following up on progress and assisting in new proposal management. You will be conducting laboratory experiments, making one or multi-step syntheses to make organic monomers of different levels of complexity, building new organic synthesis capabilities in the lab.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE
- You will lead groups and assist members of the sorbent development team in the synthesis and characterization of porous materials, especially on organic sorbent development (polymers, …) synthesis for carbon capture application.
- You will characterize materials using lab equipment, e.g., FTIR, TGA, DVS, NMR, microscopes, etc., and perform scientific data analysis and interpretation.
- You will work in a wet lab setting for the majority of the day, involving standing and walking for prolonged times.
- You will conduct pre-industrial scaling up organic sorbent synthesis works based on bench-scale results. Also, contribute to IP development on this area of materials research.
- You will prepare documents, reports and presentations to communicate your lab findings.
- You’ll maintain lab equipment and troubleshoot or report on malfunctions and ensure compliance with laboratory health and safety guidelines.
