Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
The role will cover the range of railway systems comprising signalling, electrical and telecommunication systems as well as dealing with the integration of these systems with the wider railway infrastructure and operational needs. The role includes systems assessment, scheme design, drafting of technical documents and specifications, management of technical information, support to other members of the rail team to enable Arup to deliver multi-disciplinary solutions for rail projects.
The candidate will be required to deliver materials to the project to the required technical standards in a timely manner.
- Railway Systems experience – signalling, electrification, telecommunications and related systems including one specialist area
- Implement multidisciplinary design information exchange workflow for infrastructure projects.
- Manage small and medium work packages.
- Responsible for managing and technical oversight of a small team of supporting engineers and technicians.
- Prepare technical designs, drawings, reports, correspondence and other outputs in accordance with approved design standards and procedures in line with the project delivery programme.
- Ensure that relevant legislation, regulations, policies, strategies and technical guidance is interpreted, followed and communicated across the team with limited guidance from more senior members of staff.
- Implement the appropriate QA procedures for all deliverables and ensure compliance with H&S requirements.
- Communicate effectively and in a team environment with a broad cross-section of individuals. This would typically include, but is not limited to; permanent way and civil works colleagues and project managers, other internal design disciplines, clients and contractors.

- Bachelors Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years post graduate experience, preferably in an operational environment.
- Chartered or working towards chartered professional status.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Signalling/Telecoms,/Electrical railway systems design and operating principles
- Installation and maintenance.
- Troubleshooting, fault finding or related practical experience.
- Document control.
- Technical Documentation Preparation.
- Drafting of standards.
- Rail systems design and contract management.
- Testing and Commissioning experience.
- Supplier management/supervision.
