  • The salary range for this position is $79,656 to $100,639.
  • Full-time, fixed-term opportunity available until 30 April 2025, based in Wānaka or Alexandra.

The role would suit someone with an interest in the operational planning, reporting and support required to ensure delivery of the district work requirements. If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • understanding of heritage and visitor field work.
  • contract and project management experience with strong planning, prioritisation and organisation skills.
  • good understanding of financial processes, ideally with a working knowledge of SAP.
  • ability to coach and support staff with the acquisition of technical knowledge.
  • a strong team player, able to contribute to wider district and regional teams as required.
  • a proven ability to work with others and manage relationships (i.e. community groups, landowners, regional councils).
  • ability and willingness to work closely with tangata whenua.
  • a strong commitment to safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
  • full New Zealand driver licence.
  • previous DOC experience or similar preferred.

Responsibilities:

HE ANGITŪTANGA | ABOUT THE ROLE

Senior Rangers perform an advisory function to the Operations Manager, planning and influencing the prioritisation of technical heritage and visitor work. In addition to the normal duties expected of the role (see the Role Description attached), the successful candidate will be required to undertake the following district priorities:

  • Visitor Risk Management Lead.
  • Heritage and visitor operational and finance planning and prioritisation.
  • Maintenance plan review and update.
  • Heritage district strategy.
  • Lead planning of the annual, quarterly and monthly work programmes for the Operations Manager.
  • Relationship management with a range of Community Groups across Central Otago.

The role could be based in either Wānaka or Alexandra, with travel between districts as required. Please note, DOC accommodation is not available and private accommodation may be limited in these locations during the busy season.
