Description:

Working as an integral member of LGT’s Estate Redevelopment Team, you will play a critical part in the delivery of a number of capital projects across our hospital and community sites, including the planning and delivery of a programme of improvements to our existing Urgent Emergency Care pathways as well as programmes that will increase the Trust’s inpatient bed capacity. You will also be involved on the development and delivery of long-term redevelopment and regeneration plans for the Trust’s two hospital sites.
This job role requires a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual; with excellent project management and organisational skills to assist and supports the works of Trust’s Redevelopment Programme Management Office [PMO] by providing comprehensive management of various capital projects that the Trust wish to deliver.
The post holder will be required to develop and manage the programme workstream and manage the projects with the support of the project officers and administrative support within the PMO. There are three themes in the Estate Redevelopment Programme, one focussed on QEH, another UHL and also the Community estate.
Key requirements for the role include strong communication, presentational and project management skills.

You will also be involved on the development and delivery of long-term redevelopment and regeneration plans for the Trust’s two hospital sites.
As a Senior Project Manager, you will report directly into and working closely with a Redevelopment Project Director. You will be involved in all aspects of a variety of design stage and construction projects with values ranging from £100,000 up to Several Million Pounds, from RIBA Stage 0 through to Stage 7. You will lead internal project teams as well as being responsible for acting as client to external consultants and contractors. You will ideally have practical experience of delivering healthcare projects. Experience of undertaking stakeholder and/or community engagement on redevelopment and construction related projects would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

Communication and Relationship Skills
Effectively and proactively support on the delivery of a portfolio of concurrent, complex design and planning development projects
Use a high level of concentration and apply expertise to analyse large volumes of complex and conflicting data. This includes ensuring appropriate capture of data through surveys and audit, presenting information obtained to a wide range of audiences in a way that they would understand and be able to take action.
Support the work stream leads to achieve project objectives within agreed and specific timescales, liaising with staff of all levels and professions to achieve this.
Utilise IT programmes to organise and interrogate data to produce evaluation and monitoring reports on projects and programmes.
Appraise the quality of information and make judgements regarding the action taken in light of the information, which may be limited.
Employ excellent change management, facilitation and negotiation skills to encourage full participation of project team members
Provide drive and challenge to achieve change objectives as rapidly as possible.
Act as an ambassador for the Trust both internally and externally
Develop and deploy communication strategies appropriate to the level and complexity of change within projects
Employ expert negotiation and diplomacy skills with all key working relationships in order to communicate highly complex and frequently sensitive or contentious information necessary to achieve the programme goals
Employ a range of communication techniques to impart complex information to a range of audiences (large and small, internal and external) and to build support for change initiatives and overcome resistance. Due to the nature of some of the change projects the post holder will be expected to deal with circumstances in which the audience or teams are antagonistic or even verbally aggressive regarding the message presented. The post holder will be required to pro-actively respond to and diffuse such situations.
Maintain high standards in documentation and production of presentation materials (presentations, meeting briefing materials)
Support work stream leads to enable the delivery of regular reports on project progress.
Report on the financial activities of the team (internal/external funding requirements) as required.
Ensure Trust staff are regularly informed of the activities and portfolio of the Estates & Facilities team.
Knowledge, Training and experience
Educated to degree/ masters level or equivalent
Qualification/ Training in construction related subject
Qualification/s and related professional membership such as RICS, CIOB, ARB, RIBA (Desirable)
Minimum of three years post qualification experience of working within the development and construction industry as a Project Manager
Project/Programme Management qualification
Well-developed and proven leadership and motivational skills to facilitate working within and leading large organisational projects
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Working knowledge of Smartsheets (desirable)
Analytical and Judgement skills
The post holder is required to make judgements involving highly complex information and options which will need to be interpreted and comparisons provided.

Planning and Organisation Skills
Excellent planning and organisation skills will be required. The activities are often made up of several components and may require the formulation and adjustment of plans.
To be responsible for all required drafting and typing of correspondence, reports and presentation materials.
Provide support as necessary to, the PMO Support Officers, and other members of the Redevelopment Team in the overall planning, presentation and progression of the key operational, performance, quality and risk objectives.
Support the team members in undertaking projects as agreed, working unsupervised to ensure effective planning and timely delivery.
Able to maintain a high level of performance when faced with competing priorities.
Ability to assess the importance and urgency of situations and initiate action, where appropriate.
Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload without direct supervision and meet required deadlines for completion.
Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation
Develops and implements policies and service development for the redevelopment function.
Leads on the introduction of new ways of working and supports the implementation as senior/ lead responsible person for the programme management
Complying with Trust policies to ensure there is a safe and secure environment that protects patients, staff and visitors and their property, and the physical assets and the information of the organisation.
Support the PMO team leadership in the collation of information to respond to Freedom of Information requests in line with expected deadlines as set out in the relevant policies and procedures.
Financial Responsibility
Responsible for managing project budgets ranging from £100,000 to multi-million pound project costs including providing forecasts and cashflow summaries for the Programme Boards/ Trust Board
Responsible for undertaking the procurement of such schemes, leading the market engagement and evaluation and process and advising Execs/ the Board on recommended commercial contracting routes
Negotiating terms with contractors and providing overall commercial leadership in close partnership with finance colleagues.
Responsibility for Human Resources (HR)
Line manage the Programme Team for projects and performance appraisal in adherence to the Trust Appraisal process
Provides expert training and advice to own team and wider redevelopment function
Responsibility for Information Resources
Regular requirement to use Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook to create letters, reports and presentations in relation to all aspects of the redevelopment programme.
Regular requirement to disseminate information in electronic format to large groups of people including uploading to the VBR (e.g. Redevelopment Programme Board meeting agendas)
Responsible for taking and transcribing formal minutes.
Responsible for data entry, text processing or storage of data compiled by others, utilising paper or computer based data entry systems.
Freedom to Act
The ability to plan and organise own workload without direct supervision; with regular progress reports to line manager on key tasks.
Seeks advice/support from line manager if required.
Guided by clearly defined policies and procedures. Work is managed, rather than supervised. The post holder can decide when it is necessary to refer to their manager.

Light physical effort required, inputting on keyboard, driving to meetings
Possible travel across between LGT sites to attend meetings to take minutes.
Requirement to carry laptop computer and/or projection equipment to meetings for presentation purposes on regular basis.

Ability to switch tasks as a result of managing multiple tasks or as a result of interruptions and / or arising situation requiring urgent attention – expect to handle competing priorities regularly.
