BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in health-related field such as Healthcare Administration, Business Policy, Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or Biostatistics, or equivalent combination of education and hospital clinical system experience
  • Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience working with databases and SQL
  • Experience preparing analysis of operational, clinical, or quality measures based on data from various large healthcare data sets and working with performance indicators/scorecards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ministry reporting requirements and CIHI reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Policy and Planning
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data and make recommendations relation to operational efficiencies
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when working with sensitive information and Patient Health Information (PHI)
  • Training in data collection, analysis, and data management, preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Healthcare environment and patient care processes
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues and provide solutions using problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent prioritization, organizational skills, and project management methodologies, as demonstrated by the ability to manage own time and successfully complete multiple tasks and projects assigned simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with all levels of stakeholders and management to provide efficient customer service
  • Demonstrated good judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with little direct supervision and within a team
  • Demonstrated skills in working with all levels of staff in an organization and the ability to work with external groups, agencies, and/or individuals
  • Proficiency in in the use of Windows based applications and other required reporting tools, such as MS Excel, MS Access, Crystal reports, SQL and MS PowerPoint
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of hospital information systems such as Cerner, Meditech, Epic, preferred experience
  • Technical knowledge of CCL (Cerner Common Language) with solid experience using it (evidenced by completion of Discern Beginner, Intermediate courses), knowledge of the Cerner Millennium database model, and familiarity with HTML/JavaScript, preferred experience.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.

Responsibilities:

Reporting - Development, maintenance, and modification of custom reports and data extracts in a variety of report-building tools (ex. Business Objects, Cerner Command Language, DA2)

  • Intake of new report/data extract requests, including meeting with clients to understand and document requirements, urgency, and value
  • Maintenance of operations jobs (ops jobs) and scheduled reports
  • Work with end users/clients to collect workflow context and refine the report requirements
  • Collect updates from other report writers on progress of outstanding requests
  • Communicate reporting limitations and caveats to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise

Project Management and Coordination – works with the stakeholder to prioritize projects focused on enhancing or optimizing the Regional Health Information System. Examples include:

  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand and document their unique reporting requirements
  • Work with colleagues to understand system functionality, workflow subtleties, and impact of exceptions
  • Document system issues and resolutions for future references
  • Contribute and document procedures, guidelines, and project communications for clinical areas, attends on-going team meetings, monthly/ad hoc vendor and end-user meetings
  • Identify and inform the technical integration and reporting manager about key issues and roadblocks that may need attention from senior leadership
  • Provide updates to stakeholders on progress of outstanding requests, explain issues/gaps where applicable
  • Validate reports for accuracy in conjunction with clients and fellow report writers
  • Manage relationships with clients by prioritizing requests, ensuring high quality deliverables, and following up on outstanding items

Education and Learning: Maintains strong knowledge of the reporting application in which they are trained and its relationship with other applications in the Regional Health Information System; coaches junior and new team members in their respective function; cross-trains on other clinical applications; maintains knowledge of technological advances; maintains knowledge of hospital workflows and operations that may impact the system.
Other: Identifies and informs managers of opportunities for optimizing the system to better support end-users, in conjunction with the stakeholders. Provides performance feedback.
