This is a temporary replacement position for a bargaining unit employee. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Reporting to the Director, Institutional Research and Strategic Insights, the incumbent supports the College’s strategic research agenda by performing higher-order analysis, causal modelling, and evaluation research in support of strategic initiatives including measurement of various dimensions of organizational, student persistence and academic outcomes the evaluation of continuous improvement strategies as well as other college, campus and/or departmental projects. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with college stakeholders to design and conduct research projects to analyze the effectiveness of college recruitment, enrolment, student supports and services, and other strategic initiatives
  • Acting as a College subject matter expert for projects involving research design, data analysis, reporting, and the use of analytical and visualization software
  • Consulting with stakeholders to properly define the research problem/question, investigate and critically assess sources of existing data and/or devising a project plan to undertake primary research activities (research study, surveys, focus groups, etc.)
  • Recommending the appropriate research methodology and sampling frame to test hypotheses, make inferences, determine causality through the use of advanced statistical analysis including multivariate regression, factoring analysis, logistic regression and longitudinal data analysis.
  • Developing query statements and using programming language(s) to extract data from internal and external databases conducting data integrity and data validation to ensure accuracy of the information
  • Creating database protocols, data coding, data dictionaries and documentation in order to work effectively with large databases, relational tables and to perform data mining
  • Utilizing Power BI, Tableau, PowerPoint, etc. graphically present data and analysis along with creating user-friendly interactive dashboards and other data visualization tools
  • Supporting the Director, IR, and the Senior Leadership Team by undertaking critical, complex, and sensitive projects to support continuous quality improvement through the development of key performance metrics
  • Presenting detailed data analysis, identifying risks and making recommendations in an accurate, audience-appropriate, and compelling manner to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Training, mentoring, assigning work, and overseeing the performance of seasonal coop students working in IR

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successfully completed a research-focused Masters degree with graduate-level training in research methodology, survey design, and multivariate statistical analysis (logistic/multivariate regression, factor analysis, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with data coding, development of syntax and documentation
  • Five years of experience conducting large analytical studies utilizing quantitative and qualitative techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases and software including statistical software (SPSS, R, etc.)
  • Ability to conduct statistical hypotheses testing for categorical, multivariate and longitudinal data, draw inferences, determine correlation/causality and evaluate impacts and outcomes
  • Experience using data analytics platforms (COGNOS, Power BI, etc.) to create meaningful and compelling data visualizations and interactive dashboards
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills to disseminate results to a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience working in a post-secondary environment is preferred
