Description:

Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.
Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Interested in contributing to Environmental Assessment Law Reform? Want to experience working with a local ENGO? The EA Reform Coordinator is a senior research assistant position that may be for you. Working with the Manitoba EcoNetwork and Dr. Fitzpatrick, this job involves organizing community outreach and events associated with environmental law reform. The selected candidate will be responsible for organizing three or more workshops on Impact Assessment Reform, to be held around the province in Winter and Early Spring 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant area of study related to environmental assessment (e.g., Geography, Environmental studies, planning, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Impact Assessment, as demonstrated through coursework and/or job experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of individuals/organizations, and adapting educational materials for communication to a diverse audience.
  • Graphic Design (for communication materials, advertisements, etc.)
  • Familiarity with online meeting software - zoom, teams, etc. in case we need to do something hybrid
  • Experience with or willingness to learn how to use event tech - microphones, projectors, etc.
  • Experience undertaking qualitative research or familiarity with qualitative research methodology.
  • Access to communication technology - phone, laptop, internet, etc. so able to contact people and keep electronic records/files of event planning.
  • Car/access to transportation for errands.
  • Ability to travel for out of town events.

Responsibilities:

  • Make arrangements for the public workshops including identifying and booking appropriate venues and hospitality services, advertising (e.g., through social media), and registration information.
  • Prepare communication material such as infographics, fact sheets, and social media posts associated with EA reform.
  • Assist in preparing articles, reports and presentations summarizing project findings.
  • Support communication and outreach to research partners.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
