Responsibilities:
ROLE SUMMARY
The postholder will take a leading role in driving the collaborative research efforts between the University of Birmingham and the First Affiliated Hospital Sun Yat-Sen University (FAH-SYSU) in Guangzhou. This position focuses on coordinating and advancing large-scale multi-omic studies related to aging and age-related diseases. The successful candidate will lead the development of innovative methodologies for analysing complex multi-omics data, oversee project management, and ensure the successful execution of research objectives.
The Senior Research Fellow will have the following key responsibilities:
- Lead large-scale multi-omic analyses in population and clinical cohorts, utilising data science approaches to advance knowledge on aging and related diseases.
- Drive the design and development of data science and machine learning methods for risk prediction, biomarker discovery, and therapeutic target identification related to ageing and related conditions.
- Lead efforts to translate research findings into clinical practice and public health policy.
- Lead development and writing of high-impact publications in leading scientific journals, and present findings at major conferences and workshops.
- Lead efforts in securing external funding through grant applications, and manage research budgets and resources effectively to support project goals.
- Supervise and mentor junior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD students, fostering an inclusive and collaborative research environment.
- Build and strengthen collaborations with national and international research partners, particularly between the University of Birmingham and FAH-SYSU, contributing to multidisciplinary efforts that align with the institution’s strategic goals.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and long-term vision of the research program, aligning it with emerging trends in genetics, multi-omics, and AI, and positioning the program for future success.
- Oversee project administration, ensuring timely delivery of milestones and effective coordination between research teams
