YOU SHOULD APPLY IF

You have experience managing large research projects across multiple organisations and stakeholders, alongside a thorough understanding of clinical research in the NHS and Universities. Excellent organisational, project and programme management skills are essential as well as good knowledge of the medical research funding landscape. A higher degree in biomedical sciences; prior involvement with surgical and perioperative care research; or experience in developing and delivering national training courses would be advantageous.

THE ROLE

We are recruiting a Senior Research Project Manager for the new NIHR Translational Research Collaboration in Surgical and Peri-Operative Care (NIHR SPOC TRC)
Underpinned by NIHR early phase experimental medicine infrastructure, the NIHR Translational Research Collaborations (TRCs) bring together expertise from Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs) to conduct translational research and address challenges in experimental medicine .

TRCs facilitate strategic collaborations across the NIHR Infrastructure and academic experts/institutions engaging external partners, including patients and the public, the health and care system, charities and industry. They create a unified community that enhances the quality of translational research in England and the broader UK. Development and delivery of research in TRCs is usually via a number of workstreams and enables enhanced collaboration across and beyond the BRCs. Importantly, they enable cross-disciplinary ‘UK team science’ approaches in key research areas. Each TRC provides a platform for:

• tangible, rapid and efficient collaboration between NIHR-funded research infrastructure, clinical researchers, NHS organisations, other research funders such as charities and life sciences companies
• streamlined access to the world class facilities and capabilities of the NIHR translational research infrastructure (may include ARCs, CRFs and all parts of infrastructure)
• design and delivery of experimental medicine and translational studies and trials across multiple TRC member centres

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

The post holder will be responsible for the successful management of the NIHR SPOC TRC. The role will develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, seek to establish strategic partnerships and foster successful collaborations. The role has primary responsibility for ensuring support needed to maintain and expand a research programme in a complex environment is available.

The role is dynamic with duties and priorities changing constantly to meet the needs of researchers and stakeholders. Although based in Bristol, it has a national remit and requires working closely with groups including:

• The NIHR Coordinating Centre Collaborations, and Business Development teams
• Academics and Clinical academics in NIHR Biomedical Research Centres and NIHR Clinical Research Facilities.
• Other stakeholders including senior scientists and clinical academics working in SPOC research from across the UK, The Royal College of Surgeons, charities, industry and other collaborators to the TRC.
