Description:
Senior Research Scientists are individuals holding a Ph.D. or other terminal degree who play a significant role in enabling, facilitating, and promoting research programs through collaborative and collegial interactions with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and staff. The rank of Senior Research Scientist is a staff appointment and the most senior level within the research scientist job hierarchy. A Senior Research Scientist may apply their effort entirely to research or to a combination of research, training, and lab managerial activities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Technical skills and competencies to conduct quantifiable, meaningful research.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds at all levels internal and external to the organization.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a positive, contributing member of a team.
- Ability to keyboard and utilize various standardized word processing, spreadsheet preparation, and presentation software.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to prioritize work, performing assignments with minimal supervision.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Terminal Degree (Ph.D./M.D./D.V.M./, etc.)
- 10 years of experience in a relevant research area, and evidence of scholarly work (e.g. scientific publications, scientific grant contributions, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Bioengineering or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in research and development of microphysiological systems.
- Work experience in an academic environment.
- More than 10 years’ research experience.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience managing research budgets and/or personnel.
