Description:
The Research in Software Engineering (RiSE) Group at Microsoft Research is seeking an exceptional Senior Research Software Engineer with a background in one or more of the areas: language model training and inference, natural language processing, formal reasoning, systems/infrastructure for AI/reasoning.
The position involves developing programming technology at the intersection of language modeling and reasoning, with a focus on advanced software development, working with a diverse team of computer scientists and engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years’ research or engineering experience building AI/data processing/formal reasoning/natural language systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science with 3+ years in engineering roles building AI/data processing/formal reasoning/natural language systems.
- PhD in Formal Methods, Natural Language Processing, or Language-Model training/inference with demonstrated ability and interest in building production-quality software.
- Active participation in engineering efforts in the above areas, with involvement in building and maintaining systems.
- Active participation in research as demonstrated by publications.
- Demonstrable ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
