Power, Natural Gas, Coal and Carbon Research (previously Point Carbon, Thomson Reuters, Refinitiv), part of Commodity Research at LSEG, has a strong footprint in the commodity community. We have been in the business of Renewables, Power and Carbon markets since 1998. Oslo is our biggest location for Power and Carbon Research; however, Commodity Research we have analysts in London, Houston, Singapore, Beijing, Gdynia, Tokyo, Lund and Sao Paulo.
Energy transition and zero emission policies increase the demand for our services in trading analytics and sustainable finance, and we are now hiring in Oslo.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The key task for the Senior Research Specialist will be following daily markets developments and trends for Power markets in Europe and globally. The candidate will have strong analytical and quantitative skills. The analyst will have high attention to detail, possess excellent communication skills, and be self-motivated, inquisitive, resourceful, and independent.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher education (MSc or PhD level) in economics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, statistics, applied physics, meteorology, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated analytical and modelling skills, excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Interest in power and energy/commodities markets; previous experience in analysis/trading/consultancy desks is a plus, but not strictly required for this position.
  • Proficiency in use of analytical software (Matlab/Python/R)
  • High attention to details, self-motivated and independent
  • Good command of English.

Responsibilities:

  • Write analysis and reports to support traders and market participants.
  • Analyze supply and demand and other fundamental price drivers for the power markets in Europe (both Nordics and Continental Europe)
  • Develop and improve quantitative models, including data handling and data processing. This includes modeling and forecasting renewables using existing and new weather forecasts.
