This is a full-time position that may offer the possibility of hybrid work arrangements.
In this role, the Senior Retirement Benefits Specialist provides guidance, support, oversight, and administrative and consultative services to internal and external customers regarding the design and administration of UPMC’s qualified and nonqualified retirement plans. They’ll ensure all legal reporting requirements for UPMC’s retirement plans are met. They may join or lead projects to effectively administer the UPMC retirement program. Additionally, they’ll collaborate with vendors and HRIS to resolve issues and maintain data integrity.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the successful implementation of the UPMC retirement program or the retirement programs for acquired or merged entities in the HRIS database and with recordkeeper/administrator; specific duties as necessary and assigned.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the HRIS database as it pertains to the proper administration for the UPMC retirement and benefit programs as assigned.
- Coordinates the testing, and oversees the implementation of upgrades, modifications, and customizations to the UPMC HR benefits system.
- Create data files as needed for the annual reports, management reporting, statistics, and for ad hoc purposes.
- Serve as key contact with recordkeeper/administrator on data issues, electronic data transfers, employee inquiries, reporting requirements, and other plan administrative functions.
- Keep abreast of changes to IRS code, ERISA legislation and tax law to ensure that UPMC plans are compliant.
- Takes the lead in major projects within the benefits area to redesign current processes, procedures, and programs.
- Conduct training of new department personnel on all departmental procedures and the retirement plans for which the department is responsible.
- Prepare annual reports (e.g., Form 5500) necessary for participants, government agencies, actuary and audits.
- Perform secondary reviews of data changes, payroll transactions, reconcilements, wire transfers, pension calculations and historical information to ensure quality of benefit delivery.
- Review and approve pension calculations and maintain historical information to ensure quality of benefit delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required and 5 years of progressive experience in employee benefits and/or retirement required with a focus on retirement plan administration, auditing and ERISA compliance required
- OR High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of progressive experience in employee benefits and/or retirement required with a focus on retirement plan administration, auditing and ERISA compliance required.
- Knowledge of benefits design, administration, compliance and legal issues pertaining to benefits programs required
