We’re looking for a Senior Risk & Compliance Assurance Officer to join the Co-op Funeral Plans Limited (CFPL) Risk & Compliance Team. As the largest Funeralcare provider in the UK and a relatively new industry to come within Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulation, you’ll join us on in playing a key role in helping the business grow safely.
In this role, you’ll design and deliver independent risk-based regulatory, risk and conduct assurance reviews in line with our annual Risk & Compliance assurance plan and methodology. You’ll evaluate CFPL’s control environment, assessing documented controls ensuring the business consistently delivers fair outcomes for clients, meets regulatory requirements, and operates within the agreed Enterprise Risk Management Framework, through the provision of second line of defence (2LOD) assurance. This is an exciting opportunity to join us on our risk and compliance journey and work as part of our market leading risk and compliance team.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • contribute to the creation of an effective risk-based assurance plan
  • deliver assurance reviews ensuring fair customer outcomes, regulatory compliance and effective risk management
  • work collaboratively, providing clarity and engagement throughout the review
  • maintain accurate detailed records of work undertaken
  • clearly articulate review conclusions, with clear recommendations to mitigate risks
  • assess action closure evidence for remedial actions
  • contribute to status reports on plan and action completion progress
  • deputise for the Head of Risk & Compliance Assurance (including attendance at relevant governance forums) as required

THIS ROLE WOULD SUIT PEOPLE WHO HAVE:

  • substantial experience within a senior risk, compliance or audit role within an FCA regulated entity
  • proven experience of independently designing and delivering assurance reviews
  • extensive knowledge and experience of the FCA Handbook relevant to CFPL
  • strong organisational capability and ability to proactively drive the end-to-end reviews with sound judgement working independently
  • an analytical understanding and lateral thinking to find out what the risks are and being curious to delve deeper
  • strong relationship building and influencing skills at all levels of the organisation
  • previous experience of creating accurate, evidence-based reports with exceptional attention to detail including clarity of thought

Here you’ll do work that matters. We’re a commercial organisation with a purpose beyond profit, you’ll have an opportunity to help us build a stronger Co-op and stronger communities. You’ll also get a package that includes:

  • private healthcare
  • coaching, training, and support to help you develop
  • pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • annual incentive scheme
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 in line with service) plus bank holidays
  • discounts on Co-op products and services
  • free support for your physical, mental and financial wellbein
