In accordance with the Government of Nunavut’s Remote Hiring Policy, this position is being advertised in the home community or is eligible for remote work.
Reporting to the Manager, Risk Management (Manager), the Senior Risk Management Analyst (Analyst) recommends, implements, and maintains an effective insurance and risk management program through risk identification, analysis, risk transfer, risk financing and loss control in accordance with Nunavut Acts and regulations and in co-operation with departments in development of policies and procedures. This is done to minimize the financial consequences of loss in respect to Government of Nunavut (GN) assets, or loss arising out of liabilities associated with the GN through its activities. This position also administers insurance claims on behalf of the GN.
The Analyst recommends, implements and maintains an effective insurance and risk management program for the GN, its boards, Agencies, and committees to protect their assets and activities from the risk of financial loss; determines and implements cost effective ways of protecting GN programs and activities from loss in order to minimize the financial consequences of losses arising out of risks associated with the GN through its programs and activities; and determines and implements cost effective ways of protecting all GN fixed and mobile assets from the risk of loss in order to minimize the financial consequences to the GN. The Analyst also manages insurance claims for the GN; maintains a Risk Management Information System database ensuring that the data is accurate, complete and current for recording, monitoring, analysis and reporting of claims progress; and administrates a contract for Insurance Brokerage Services.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically attained by completion of a degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field, from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a risk management/insurance environment. One or more of the following designations is a strong asset: Canadian Risk Management (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation. If the successful candidate does not possess one of the listed designations, they must complete a CRM or CIP within two (2) years of hire date.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
