Description:

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • BSc with relevant (or equivalent) industry experience
  • Extensive in vivo skills in a range of rodent models with current or previous Home Office personal licence holder (modules A-B or 1-2/1-3) or equivalent qualification
  • Fully conversant with all aspects of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, Directive 2010/63/EU, associated Home Office guidelines and their implications.
  • A proven track record of study co-ordination and delivery across cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a general understanding of the Drug Discovery process
  • Experience as Named People, for example NACWO or Project Licence Holder
  • Capable of leading as a specialist in a specific area i.e. irradiation, surgery or imaging
  • Experience as a trainer and assessor of in vivo skills under ASPA

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Scientist, you will be required to initiate, direct and troubleshoot research experiments in laboratory animals while maintaining the highest standards of animal care and welfare. You will be fully competent in a range of technical procedures and be capable of leading a specialty area within the department. You’ll generate clear and complete data sets, including the documentation of raw data in computerised data capturing systems and on handwritten records.
You will be able to work autonomously, prioritise your own workload and be capable of training less experienced scientists as part of the team. Passionate about self-development, you will maintain current knowledge in Laboratory animal sciences, e.g., through Continued Professional Development (CPD), collaboration with peer scientists or contact with other internal groups. Highly diligent, you’ll ensure that tasks are performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g., Good Laboratory Standards (GLS).
