DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS
The Broad Institute is in search of a highly motivated and capable Research Scientist to join the therapeutics team at the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research. The aim of the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research is to reveal the genetic, molecular, cellular, and circuitry underpinnings of psychiatric disorders, and to search for the next generation therapeutics. The candidate will develop target-specific cellular assays, and electrophysiological/pharmacological assays, working with a multidisciplinary team to support therapeutic discovery programs in psychiatric disorders. In addition, the candidate will investigate and validate risk genes implicated in psychiatric disorders for drug discovery efforts. Excellent technical optimization and problem-solving skills are required
Minimum requirements
- Expertise in electrophysiology with hands-on experience and expert understanding of ion channel biology and physiology. Experience in assay development is strongly preferred.
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related life science field. Significant experience in drug discovery, preferably in an industrial setting with a strong track record of publications.
- Outstanding personal initiative and communication skills. Collaborative and enjoy team working environment
Responsibilities:
- Develop and establish throughput in vitro assays to support probe development and drug discovery efforts targeting ion channels using the state of the art automated patch instrument – syncropatch 384PE.
- Develop and implement in vitro electrophysiological, biophysical and cellular assays to understand channel function in both normal and dysfunctional brains.
- Lead in vitro pharmacology for drug discovery proects, working closely with pharmacologists, neurobiologists and medicinal chemists.
- Research and develop functional assays on membrane proteins, and to validate novel targets using molecular, cellular, and neurobiological approaches.
- Participate within a team of scientists to foster a culture of scientific discourse and excellence.
