Description:

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

As a Senior Scientist, you will collaborate with other structural biologists, biophysicists, protein scientists, bioscientists, and chemists in cancer drug discovery. You will develop crystal systems enabling iterative structure-based drug design programs, fragment-based lead discovery, and the determination of inhibitor mechanism. You will support multiple crystallography projects in parallel, delivering and interpreting liganded protein structures to project team chemists, providing insight for drug design.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry or a related discipline or extensive experience in a similar role
  • Core skill base in macromolecular crystallization, X-ray diffraction data collection, structure solution and refinement
  • Experience with crystallization robotics and databases
  • Knowledgeable in protein handling, preparing ligand complexes and characterization methods
  • Good understanding of how protein structure relates to protein function
  • Strong communication skills and experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Exposure to the drug discovery environment where structural and biophysical studies are used to drive medicinal chemistry
  • Experience in related areas such as protein science, and biophysics
When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn’t mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.
At AstraZeneca, we follow the science to explore and innovate. We are committed to making a difference by fusing data and technology with the latest scientific innovations to achieve the next wave of breakthroughs. We offer an inclusive environment where we work seamlessly as one. We unite the best from academia, biotechs and the industry to create the greatest and swiftest impact on disease.
Are you ready to embrace new and varied opportunities to develop and learn? Join us at AstraZeneca and be part of a team that pushes the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines!

Responsibilities:

Join AstraZeneca, a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development, and commercialization of prescription medicines. Operating in over 100 countries, our medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide. We are looking for a talented scientist with expertise in protein crystallography to play an influential role in drug discovery projects within our Cambridge UK location.
