SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in applied science, environmental science, or equivalent, preferably with specialisation in water.
  • Senior level experience in the delivery of applied environmental sciences, preferably related to water pollution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in water pollution and prevention.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will provide expert advice and guidance and inform regulatory and strategic decisions by the EPA about complex marine and freshwater pollution problems and major projects and infrastructure proposals.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Lead the provision of scientific advice and guidance in marine and freshwater sciences, that meet the priority needs of the EPA as a science-based regulator.
  • Deliver scientific advice to inform regulatory and strategic decisions on water pollution and prevention, ensuring an understanding of potential environmental impacts of different options.
  • Analyse scientific evidence and prepare statements of opinion for use in compliance and enforcement activities, including prosecutions.
  • Communicate scientific/technical information about water pollution and prevention to a wide variety of audiences, including the results of associated research and analysis.
  • Identify and deliver science to address marine and freshwater pollution issues and knowledge gaps, working with academia and other research organisations to address knowledge gaps to optimise outcomes for the EPA and the community.
