JOB DESCRIPTION:

Ciena’s Supply chain procurement organization is looking for a dynamic Senior Semiconductor component engineer that specialized in high end FPGA, cross-point switches and power devices. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full life cycle of the component within its commodity scope, starting from the component selection and coding process all the way to the archiving of the component record. The semiconductor component engineer is also responsible for the quality and reliability specifications/requirements for all procured hardware components within its commodity scope by working proactively with the Ciena development team and Ciena suppliers. The component engineer will work with the NPI Sourcing/Global Commodity Management team (GCM) as well as with the development teams to provide guidance/input into the selection of reliable technologies, process and components for new designs, life cycle management programs or cost reduction initiatives through commodity councils. The component engineer will also be responsible to evaluate the reliability impact of product change notifications (PCNs) received from our suppliers and coordinate review of these PCNs and Last Time Buy (LTB) notices internally to resolution as well as manage component life cycles and support business and technical issues. The component engineer needs to ensure the field reliability of Ciena products by performing risk assessment and establishing the corporate qualification status in the corporate component database.
Key responsibilities:

The component engineer is responsible for the following tasks in a timely & professional manner;

  • Definition of qualification requirements based on industry standards.
  • Coding of new components, including writing the technical procurement specifications.
  • Reliability qualification of its component portfolio.
  • Ensure supply security by multi-sourcing its component portfolio
  • Supplier audits & development activities including documenting/resolving audits finding, process audited along with key parameters of the process/production capabilities and capacity.
  • Managing the technical relationship with our supply base.
  • Documenting the components in Ciena corporate database, including the components compliance to environmental regulations (RoHS, REACH, TSCA, others).
  • Compliance/regulatory assessments (EU, FOC, Conflict Mineral, Nom, power supply safety, etc…) .
  • Guidance for the selection of reliable components based on failure mechanisms.
  • Participate in commodity councils to provide guidance to our design counter part of the technology of choice for future development.
  • Ongoing maintenance of the database based upon product change notifications from our suppliers.
  • Establish Ciena position on reliability issues, support the resolution of business critical delivery problems, cost reduction programs & supplier supply agreements/negotiations.
  • Coordinate prompt resolution of component level issues. Leverage quality and failure analysis support at the CM, and work directly with the component manufacturers where needed. Issues include end of life notifications, product change notices (PCN), and component level test failures, etc…
  • Coordinate component qualifications for new revision parts and/or replacement parts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • M.S Degree or Ph.D (preferred) in physics or electronics engineering with at least 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record and established subject matter expertise on reliability, quality and failure mechanisms for semiconductor communication components.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience and knowledge/understanding of Semiconductor fabrication process for FPGA and power devices, transistors, linear/analog/digital logic, diodes, LEDs.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience and knowledge/understanding of the fabrication process and the qualification process for integrated power modules.
  • Knowledge of Silicon (28nm and below) process.
  • Availability to travel 15-20% of time.
  • Telecommunication knowledge with excellent command of relevant industry standards, Telcordia, IPC,JEDEC, etc.
  • Extensive experience with technical and ‘hands-on’ component production line audit.
  • Strong communication/team work skills to work with relevant departments within Ciena.
  • Strong leadership skills and influence in order to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions implementation as required.
  • Attention to details, organized and motivated to excel.
  • Focused on completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
    The annual pay range for this position is $102,500 - $163,700 CAD
    Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
    Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
