Description:

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Water Demand Investment Planner
As the guardians of Scotland’s water and waste water networks, we’ve always got one eye on the future. How will demand for water change over time? How can we make sure that we’re able to meet those needs? When, where and how should we invest to make sure that Scotland is ready for whatever the future holds?
For the people in our Economic Demand Management team, this is all they think about. And they are looking for a Water Demand Investment Planner to help develop a strategic approach to Water Demand Management, and working closely with our Capital Investment specialists to make sure that investment plans and projects are focused on meeting those future demands.
What you’ll do
You’ll be part of a small team that develops and maintain our comprehensive water demand management strategy.
Using that strategy as the foundation, you will maintain our two key Management Approaches for Water Metering and Flow Monitoring, and our overall approach to Water Demand Management.
You’ll help to develop and implement the related investment programmes in relation to the two management approaches including monitoring delivery of individual projects. You can expect to get involved in capital water demand reduction projects, including project planning, business case development, funding agreement, resourcing planning, project specification and deliverables.
Investment activities relate to the maintenance and improvement of our flow metering asset base and projects that will deliver reduced demand and leakage volumes to new lower target levels.
You’ll be focused on the development of delivery/action plans, monitoring progress, and reporting to business stakeholders. And provide support and guidance to colleagues across the business.
This is a very data focused role in relation to the investment program, so expect to be involved in projects around planned investment cost data quality and integrity. This might include specifying changes to data requirements, and reviewing the way we report on the effectiveness, efficiency and cost recording of key activities.
We’re interested in how the other UK water companies approach water demand planning, so you’ll also be helping to benchmark our approach and performance against them, and incorporate those findings into our business strategies and improvement plans.
This is a great opportunity for a numerate analyst with an interest in making sure Scotland is ready to adapt to future water demands.
What you’ll need
It important to understand the strategic environment we operate in, so you’ll need a good understanding of our Regulatory Framework and our main drivers and objectives.
Ideally you’ll have experience of using asset investment systems; We use tools called FAB and Unifier. We also have applications to manage small scale projects that fit with our management approaches – some knowledge of these would be helpful.
You’ll have an understanding of capital and operational efficiency, and some knowledge of Water Demand and/or Asset Management Strategies.
Character is important to us. Across the whole of Scottish Water, we look for people who are Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring. (And you can expect these characteristics to make an appearance in your interview with us…)
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
The normal hours for this role are Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7, with a salary range from £41,000 to £51,970. New external hires will normally be expected to join on the minimum salary.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until the 1st of October at midnight.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We’re also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you’ll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
