Job title: Senior Engineer – Ship structures (FEA)

Salary: Up to £ 51,000 (depending on skills and experience)
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
Essential:
- Well versed in the complete FEA cycle; building models, verification, quality assurance
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- IT knowledge with strong communication skills both verbal and written, particularly in regards to technical report writing capabilities
Desirable:
- Experience with Altair’s Hyperworks suit and Abaqus
- Good understanding and experience of employing FEA to Ship structures, in both global and local scenarios
- Experience working in ship building
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.
Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.
Responsibilities:
- Construct and refine Finite Element Models from 2D/3D drawings, geometry and existing FE models
- Undertake FEA of significant ship sections and apply multiple load cases in accordance with project guidelines
- Employ local sub-modelling techniques to assess critical areas of ship structure as required
- Produce other structural design solutions, supported by calculations, for either ship scantling issues or seat designs as required
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Naval Ships to deliver engineering solutions
- Development of high quality technical reports to communicate results to internal and external stakeholders
- Peer reviewing of other team members calculations where required
- Prepare Design Sketches of structural solutions as required
