Description:
To take managerial, clinical and professional responsibility for the Neonatal Unit.
To use innovative thinking to ensure the provision of high quality infant care in the most efficient and safe manner in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
To encourage, facilitate and support the professional and clinical development of neonatal nursing staff.
To provide active leadership and ensure motivation and effective communication within the neonatal team and other healthcare professionals across the Trust and community.
To be visible point of contact for infant’s carers, visitors, relatives and staff, acting as a resource for problem solving and needs. Act as role model to ensure the dignity, rights and confidentiality of the babies and team members are protected and maintained.
To demonstrate a high degree of motivation and the ability to develop and inspire staff.
To actively manage the delivery of care on a day to day level. To ensure effective monitoring of manpower requirements and to implement appropriate measures to ensure a well-balanced skillmix.
Promote the role of the Neonatal nurse, developing a neonatal nursing service which works in the best interest of the babies and their families. To make a positive contribution to the strategic planning of the service.
Identifying the training and learning needs to support and develop the existing nursing staff.
Co-ordinate and monitor the care given by all members of staff in the department, liaise with multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies to ensure continued care delivery, taking appropriate action if care fall below an accepted standard.
