An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 senior sister to join the Christie endocrine department
This is a full time 37.5 hours post.
We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate nurse with leadership experience, to join our dedicated team. Experience in managing a team is essential with experience in governance, quality audits, hr processes, off duty and a range of clinical skills.
The Endocrine Unit is an internationally recognised centre of clinical and academic excellence and provides a specialist service for a wide range of conditions including late effects of cancer therapies, Neuroendocrine tumours, and specialist treatments for Thyroid conditions. The service includes specialised genetic conditions eg Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and Turners Syndrome, amongst many others.
The Endocrine Unit comprises of a day unit that can accommodate eleven patients where there is the facility for investigation, diagnosis and treatment of complex hormone related conditions and also delivers blood transfusions to oncology patients. Outpatient endocrine clinics run within the department on a daily basis and are wide and varied in there scope, eg radioiodine clinic, growth hormone clinic, nurse led injection clinic. A DEXA service runs within the department. The department supports student nurse placements and has an active clinical audit and research programme.
To take responsibility for the management of the department, including patient care and skill mix, and the development and support of the nursing team. To demonstrate initiative and vision in continuing to move the services forward whilst assisting in implementing service changes / developments.
We are looking for a Band 7 Senior sister to join our highly motivated, friendly and caring team. There is a unique opportunity for a forward thinking, dynamic senior nurse to join our team to be part of the ongoing development of the endocrine unit from both a nursing and medical perspective. He/she will work collaboratively with the nursing, medical and research teams. The successful candidate will help develop nurse led services within the Endocrine Unit. The successful candidate will be someone who is self-motivated, a supportive team member for both junior and senior colleagues and an effective change agent, and will assist in identifying areas for development and implementing service improvements within the unit.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
TRAINING & EDUCATION
To be up to date in all IV training programs (level 1 and 2) including annual updates and competent in all areas of clinical practice.
Ensure all staff have an appropriate level of training and are offered relevant support.
Present at training days and at conference.
Initiate and undertake research and audit which will influence practice.
Be up to date and competent with other clinical skills such as performing ECG’s, basic life support and intermediate life support.
Attend all mandatory study days and ensure attendance of all staff.
