Description:
Main Responsibilities: Clinical Working in accordance with Independent Health Groups values, the NMC or HCPC codes of professional conduct, Independent Health Group policies and procedures, the Senior Site Practitioner will ensure safe and effective care and treatment is provided to patients. Responsibilities include: Monitor and support the team to deliver high quality and safe patient care, during the whole of the care pathway and perioperative period. The post holder is responsible for reporting to the Matron on quality, safety, and outcome measures. Oversee and conduct the timely completion of work-based competencies for all non-medical staff.
Recognise complications and deal with clinical problems in a safe and appropriate manner. Provide post-operative advice and support to patients. Be fully conversant with the requirements of Duty of Candour and ensure the service practices in accordance with them. Maintain health, safety, and infection prevention in clinical work areas.
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records including computerised records using the Patient Administration System. Deliver high quality patient care, in line with IHG policy and procedures to patients during the perioperative phase. Ensure patient safety by following and implementing WHO surgical safety guidelines. Demonstrate competence and flexibility as a Theatre Practitioner, scrub, admissions, discharge, and recovery.
Be responsible for co-ordinating the theatre list ensuring effective start and finish times. Ensure preparation of theatre and required equipment for the operating list is undertaken effectively, to prevent delays or cancellations. Be responsible for quality improvement, ensuring audits are completed effectively and on time. Be responsible for raising any complaints, incidents, near or misses and escalating any safeguarding concerns.
Demonstrate competence with current emergency resuscitation techniques to ILS [HR1]level. Manage own mandatory training compliance and support the team to complete their mandatory training on time. Recognise the deteriorating patient using the NEWS2 score to assess the patient escalating concerns effectively. Provide post-operative advice and support to patients.
Provide an effective handover to ensure lists run effectively in your absence. Managerial Provide leadership and supervision for the team. Attend Clinical Review Meetings and Nursing/ODP meetings. Be inclusive, develop and promote good working relationships with the wider clinical and non-clinical teams in line with just culture principles.
Work collaboratively with other Senior Practitioners. Promote good clinical practice and participate in clinical governance, reporting of incidents, audit, and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure staff have a timely return to work meeting, liaising with HR as necessary. Ensure that theatre stock levels, equipment and resources are maintained.
Manage the staffing rota in a timely manner, and attend weekly operations meetings, escalating any concerns. Help create a healthy and safe work environment, implementing IHG policies relating to fire, health and safety, risk assessment and infection control etc. Continuous development Take responsibility for identifying own learning and professional development needs, in consultation with the Matron. Take appropriate opportunities to maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
Actively participate in the appraisal system and lead on the appraisals of the theatre team as directed. With the Matron, ensure all newly appointed theatre staff receive induction and ongoing learning and development appropriate to their role. Keep up to date with current professional practice and research, maintain professional registration
