- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or similar work based experience.
- Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer ideally with a focus on media-related projects.
- Very good working knowledge of standard software development frameworks, techniques and methodologies.
- Experience with providing coaching and mentoring.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, contributing to the development of business scenarios.
- Knowledge of software development tools and technologies.
- You are flexible and curious in your approach.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a passionate Senior Software Engineer who lives and breathes Java development to join us working with our media client. You will make a key contribution to the entire development lifecycle including new writing features, fixing bugs and performing code reviews.
You will have the opportunity to work on several exciting projects: helping with application/framework version upgrades and the development of new features in a DevOps environment, re-architecting a set of microservices that power an API to serve onward journey items for the client’s websites, dealing with upgrades to AWS services or implementing some new features to existing services such as archiving or the site map
generator.
The successful application will have expertise writing Java within the Spring or Springboot application framework, have previous experience of writing REST APIs, experience of several AWS services and excellent SQL knowledge having worked with relational and non-relational
databases.
ESSENTIAL KEY SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- have extensive experience developing in Java and Spring/Springboot frameworks
- be comfortable working with REST API endpoint development, management and maintenance
- have experience with AWS including EC2, Lambda and S3 (as a minimum)
- have experience with relational and non-relational databases
- have developed software in Scala (desired)
- have experience building continuous integration pipelines e.g. Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild (desired)
- have previously worked within microservices architecture (desired)
- have worked on high capacity, high traffic or high availability websites (desired)
- have some basic Linux system administration knowledge at DevOps level (desired)
- have experience supporting services from an operational perspective (desired)
- be comfortable with Jira and Confluence (desired)
- enjoy collaborating with other engineers
- have a strong willingness to learn and be a keen team player
- have experience of writing and taking responsibility for technical documentation
