Job Description
Bento is a team of 19 people total, of which 16 are in tech. You will be joining our Knives squad, who own our Bento Box product. Bento Box is a novel and unique subscription-first E-Commerce platform designed specifically for subscription businesses. We need your help to build powerful new features into Bento Box, solve the myriad challenges of scalable SaaS technology, and deploy our product to our merchants.
Bento tech’s core challenge is to design our platform to scale to many merchants without duplicating work for each merchant, while also providing effective productised solutions for each merchant’s unique requirements. Success in this role means delivering a powerful, scalable, and stable technology platform that is packed with innovative market-beating features, while also preparing to scale our business non-linearly in 2025.
This role is based in Gousto’s head office in Shepherd’s Bush, London. The Bento team has a mandatory office day of Tuesday, with some members of the team optionally coming into the office on Wednesday or Thursday also. You will report to the engineering manager of the Knives squad, with your skip-level manager being Bento’s CTO.

• Build and deploy powerful new product features, at a prompt pace and with a minimum of defects.
• Deploy Bento Box to our signed merchants.
• Strong frontend skills to architect a scalable and responsive web application
• Strong understanding of API flows and scalability issues.
• Develop tooling, monitoring, and alerting to ensure our product is robust and reliable.
• Support the platform that is already deployed to existing merchants.
• Write internal documentation and runbooks for our ecommerce platform.
• Write technical designs for our major technical initiatives.
• Hold high engineering standards in both frontend and backend.
• Aid your engineering manager in scoping, prioritising, and planning work for the squad.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and participate in knowledge-sharing.
• Work closely with your squad in an agile way, to consistently grow professionally and improve the squad’s culture and velocity.
