Description:
MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience in software engineering or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience in software engineering or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position
QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:
- Experience with C++/Python, Object Oriented Design, Linux, Network Protocols, High Availability and Security.
- Experience in data communication or embedded system software development

Responsibilities:
POSITION ROLE TYPE:

The Senior Software Engineer will help design system and software solutions for our global aviation network. This network consists of ground stations deployed all around the world to provide on-ground and enroute VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2 coverage for over 90% of the airline industry. The system is part of a critical infrastructure to support ACARS and ATN in which Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Aeronautical Operational Control (AOC) messages are exchanged.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- You will work onsite 3 days a week in our Annapolis, MD office.
- You will perform full life-cycle software development including designing system and software solutions, supporting implementation, integration, acceptance testing and deployment.
- You will support a large-scale global aviation network infrastructure with heavy design focus in redundancy, high availability, and security.
- You will develop software for air-ground/ground-ground communication, positional data processing, transport/routing/link layer protocols, radio interfaces, hardware/OS customization, and remote deployment capabilities.
- You will collaborate closely with system engineering/performance, network engineering, system acceptance and field operation teams.
- You will provide support for product deployment, field monitoring, troubleshooting and operator trainings.
- You will participate in lab/field integration and industry activities with avionics vendors, Satellite Service Providers, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) from domestic US , Europe and Asia.
- You will utilize a mature ISO/SEI CMMI compliant process to produce all work products.
- You will support project leadership, project planning, execution, monitoring and closure activities.
