Description:

Job Description
Renishaw’s Engineering Technology Centre (ETC) is responsible for the early-stage research and development of boundary-pushing concepts, systems, solutions, technologies, and products.
We’re a small team of creative, multidisciplinary individuals looking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer to work on a novel concept in machine automation.
As a Senior Software Engineer in the ETC, you’ll focus on integrating concept-enabling mechatronic solutions with existing hardware and software systems. You’ll be developing and improving the software architecture to support this novel concept. This includes opportunities to take on a broad range of further software development activities that will enable you to contribute to existing and future projects.

About you

  • Develop production-standard engineering software as part of the product design process for a new product, from embedded firmware to user facing front end applications.
  • Research and develop software to support the design of user interaction and data processing elements of a new product. This will include data management and processing, user interaction, architecture and API design, class modelling, numerical optimization, error compensation, computer vision or three dimensional kinematic or dynamic calculations.
  • Support the development of early-stage prototypes, including testing, bug-fixing and problem solving, feeding back results to improve system designs.
  • Contribute to team ideation, suggesting and evaluating novel approaches and helping to implement solutions for new products.

About the role

  • Proven experience developing software in C#
  • Qualified to degree level in an Engineering, Computer Science, Software Development, Physical Sciences, or a Mathematics related discipline
  • Proven experience in software development and software architecture design, with an understanding of software design principles
  • Proficiency in using automated unit testing frameworks
  • Further software development experience in Python, Modern C++, or MATLAB/Octave
  • Experience of real-time control system implementation, including safety critical elements and hardware interfaces
  • Experience in developing software for GNU/Linux environments

Person specification
For this role, we’re open to considering engineers of varying levels of experience, but as the successful candidate you’ll be keen to learn new technologies and broaden their horizons, enabling you to contribute within a research environment on rapidly evolving projects. You’ll also hold a willingness to put forward and independently research completely new systems, ideas, and solutions.
Benefits
When you join Renishaw, we’re committing to your future career. That’s because we believe in developing our people’s skills and promoting them internally. We also offer a benefits package that’s highly desirable; including a 9% non-contributory pension, discretionary annual bonus, subsidised onsite restaurants and *coffee shops, free parking, *car sharing scheme and *24 hour fitness centres. (not available at our Castle Donington, Exeter, York & Edinburgh sites).
We also want to promote a healthy work-life balance as much as possible, so we have introduced a hybrid working policy which allows for a combination of home and office based working depending on the nature of your role. We also offer a variable working programme, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, Life Assurance policy of 12 times annual salary, Cycle to Work scheme, enhanced maternity pay subject to qualifying criteria, Health Cash Plan, the option to join BUPA Renishaw Health Trust and an Employee Assistance Programme for employees and family.
