Responsibilities:
In the role of Senior Solicitor, you will use your expertise and experience to provide sound independent and authoritative advice and liaise with persons at senior levels under the strategic direction of the Deputy General Counsel and Director. The Senior Solicitor also prepares briefings on whether or how the Commission should exercise its functions, prepares briefings to counsel, acts as instructing solicitor and, on occasion, represents the Commission before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. The Senior Solicitor also conduct prosecutions on behalf of the Commission. The role requires working to tight deadlines to meet constantly changing priorities and address urgent new and emerging developments, in the evolving area of liquor regulation. In this role, as a senior member of staff, you will also be required to review advice and briefings developed by more junior Solicitors and provide feedback and development.
Some of your duties will include:
- Providing, within limited time constraints, authoritative written and verbal advice to the Commission on complex issues related to relevant legislation, regulations and agreements.
- Preparing briefings on whether/how the Commission should exercise its functions, preparing briefings to counsel, acting as instructing solicitor and, on occasion, representing the Commission before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Conducting prosecutions on occasion on behalf of the Commission.
