THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Hydrogeologist to join our Mineral Resources projects team in Toronto or Sudbury.
This is a permanent onsite position.
As a Senior Specialist, Hydrogeologist, you will provide subject matter expertise in the field of hydrogeology to all Base Metals FEL projects. Your experience and skills will help in developing the appropriate Hydrogeology Standards and Programs to meet all legal requirements, Vale Base Metal’s internal governance standards and industry best practices for all FEL Projects.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Review and update the global standards and deliverables for capital projects as it relates to hydrogeology.
  • Assist the project manager, at least one of the sub processes through to being the owner’s rep during the demonstration stage to assure that project meets the scope, schedule and budget for this area.
  • Communicating aspects of the hydrogeology plan to the Project Management on a weekly/monthly basis as required.
  • Provide training and mentoring for less experienced personnel within the group as required.
  • Provide ongoing technical advice and assistance to Vale mining projects internationally as required.
  • Assist with the development and advancement of Water Management Plans to ensure that all water-related hazards are adequately addressed to ensure safety and protection of major infrastructure.
  • Coordinate Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Hydrogeochemical studies to support Capital Projects, strategic initiatives, and closure planning.
  • Develop and advance water balance/availability models that consider a broad range of construction and operational scenarios as well as climatic conditions.

EDUCATION:

  • BS Degree in Geosciences, Geology or Hydrology required
  • P. GEO. Or P.Eng is required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Over 10 years of experience on the Hydrology field

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations, and relations.
  • Knowledge of GoldSim and/or Groundwater Vistas is preferred
  • Strong influencing and collaboration competency
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel
