EDUCATION
BS/MS/Ph.D. degree in a Optical Engineering field, Applied Physics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years in a technical leadership role focused on optical systems
- Considerable experience in developing moderate complexity RUO instrumentation
- Has been optics lead or sub-team lead through at least two product development cycles which incorporate fluorescent based imaging systems
- Experience building, and maintaining optics lab
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Deep understanding of fluorescence based optical detection systems
- Familiar with the key technical elements of genetic analyzers
- Competent in hands-on optical experiments, including methods and tools for optical alignment
- Experience with optical modeling tools, including ZEMAX
- Broad knowledge of materials and processes used in manufacture of optical components
- Has cultivated and can take advantage of a network of optics experts and vendors
Responsibilities:
- Understand customers and passionately represent their needs in optical system product requirements
- Partner with product management to translate customer needs into optical system requirements
- Architect and design optical systems
- Develop optical models, analyze optical tolerance stack-ups, and lead sensitivity analysis
- Partner with the Operations team to transfer optical system design to manufacturing
