ABOUT US
Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our crews have been risking their lives to save those who are in danger of drowning. There is an opportunity at Amble Lifeboat Station for a Senior Station Technician to join the team. This would suit someone whose mechanical expertise, resilience, leadership, and management skills are just as strong as their ability to keep Amble Lifeboat in perfect operational order.
Responsibilities:
YOUR ROLE
As a Senior Station Technician, most of your time will be utilised ensuring that both the current lifeboats; our Shannon Class and D Class, as well as our launch and recovery equipment is maintained to the highest standard. The boats and equipment are stored over two sites. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Lifeboat Station is well managed and you will be required to assist training volunteer crew members - so that when an emergency shout does occur, you, your crew and your lifeboat will be absolutely prepared.
YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE:
- Inspiring and motivating your team; supporting their development, conducting shore-based training, identifying ways they can improve and imparting your valuable knowledge.
- Meeting and talking to the general public about your station’s work.
- Taking a lead on Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment issues, helping to develop a positive culture within the station.
- Spending time in the day to day running of the Lifeboat Station; this may be in the form of answering e-mails, ensuring records are maintained and working with the Operations Team.
To be considered for the role of Senior Station Technician at Amble Lifeboat Station you will need:
- Knowledge and experience of the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel engines. An engineering background and mindset is essential.
- To demonstrate leadership and management qualities, and the ability to motivate and maximise people’s potential.
- The potential to be a passed-out as an RNLI ALB Afloat Mechanic.
- Experience of fulfilling a Lifeboat Mechanic role or equivalent, with the capacity and willingness to develop skills in other areas of seagoing duties
