The Senior Strategic Adviser provides strategic advice and coordinates strategic work across the Commission. The role provides advice and organisational support to the Commissioner. The Senior Strategic Adviser supports strategic relationships and engagement of the Commissioner and Leadership Team within political and organisational contexts. The role also coordinates and contributes to the business plan and implementation of actions for the Commission.

- VPS Grade 5.2: $117,718 - $128,897 plus superannuation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A relevant tertiary qualification in law and human rights or equivalent experience would be highly desirable but not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Strategic Adviser provides strategic advice and coordinates strategic work across the Commission. The role provides advice and organisational support to the Commissioner. The Senior Strategic Adviser supports strategic relationships and engagement of the Commissioner and Leadership Team within political and organisational contexts. The role also coordinates and contributes to the business plan and implementation of actions for the Commission.
The Senior Strategic Adviser coordinates the preparation of speaking notes and other material for the Commissioner, supervises and quality assures the content, develops briefings, and supports correspondence for the Commission.
The successful candidate will demonstrate great skills in communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. Your capacity for collaboration, driving continuous improvement, and cultivating genuine relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be pivotal for your success.
Some of your duties will include:
- Provide expert advice, information and support to the Commissioner and Leadership team.
- Manage the coordination, monitoring and reporting of the Commission’s strategic and business plan.
- Provide expert advice, information and assistance on strategic issues and risks, and provide options for decision-making and risk management.
- Initiate and maintain positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and lead the development and quality assurance of briefings, reports, correspondence, speeches, presentations, and other Commission communications, as requested.
- Provide advice and contribute to cross-Commission or other government working groups and networks as directed.
- Manage staff as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Specialist and/or relevant experience in providing strategic advice and leadership on equal opportunity and human rights issues.
- Specialist and/or relevant experience in responding to external events and changing stakeholder needs within political and organisational contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills across government organisations to develop solutions to complex issues.
